Visit the University of Ghana at Legon. Lecture on Ghanaian history and discussion with African Studies students.
Visit the WEB DuBois Centre for Pan Africanism, the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Park, and the National Museum.
Pass the Freedom Arch and the Independence Arch and Square on the way to the hotel.
Traditional dance performance and naming ceremony; lecture on Ghanaian traditional institutions at the hotel, then shopping with local vendors.

Saturday, January 11, 2003
Depart Accra for Kumasi in the morning.
Once in Kumasi, visit the Palace Museum and walk through the Central Market, West Africa's largest open-air market.

Sunday, January 12, 2003
Visit three Asante craft villages: Ahwiaa, specializing in wood carvings; Ntonso, home of Adinkra mourning cloth; and Bonwire, birthplace of Kente cloth.
In the afternoon, drive to Elmina on the Atlantic coast.

Monday, January 13, 2003
Visit the Duakor fishing village, home to migrant Ewe from the Volta Region. Meet the chief of the village and interact with primary and junior secondary school students at the village's school.
Guided tour through Elmina Castle, a Portuguese slave castle.
Bus tour on European influence in Cape Coast and Elmina.

Tuesday, January 14, 2003
Stop at the post office in Cape Coast, then proceed to the Volta Region in the east by way of Accra.
Attempt to visit the Tafi-Atome Monkey Sanctuary, but find that the monkeys have retreated to the forest.
Scholars roundtable discussion after dinner.

Wednesday, January 15, 2003
Rise before sunrise to return to Tafi-Atome, successfully.
Visit Dr Naomesi's traditional medicine research laboratory for a discussion with Dr Naomesi.
Hike through the tropical forest to the Wli waterfall, the highest in Ghana.
Afterward, drive back to Accra.

Thursday, January 16, 2003
Free morning for shopping and exploration; most students go to the Arts and Crafts Market for last-minute shopping.
Check luggage at the airport in the afternoon.
Farewell dinner with music and dance; nightlife afterwards.

Friday, January 17, 2003
Depart the hotel at 4am for the airport; 7am flight.
Arrive in New York at 12:30 pm.
Go home and sleep.
